- Line 30729: Update the loop-assignment rewrite guarded by
A.isForNode(statement) and !isVar to reject moving an assignment into a let
initializer when its right-hand side reads any later declarator in the same let
declaration. Preserve the rewrite only when that read is absent, so
temporal-dead-zone behavior remains unchanged.

@aryanraj45 lets rebase and fix failed tests |
`if (a) return; if (b) return c` was written `if (!a) if (b) return c`, as the tail is rewritten after nested `if`s are merged. Neither may hold an `else`.
`for (; a; i++, 0)` keeps only `i++`, and an update left with no effect goes, as terser already does for the init.
`let i; for (i = 0; …)` as `let i = 0; for (; …)`. The `let` stays out of the loop head, where it would be a binding each time round, unseen after the loop.
Drives early-return merging, a loop's dead update and a let lifted into a loop head through webpack(), including the self-reading let/var guards.
main's syntax unit test split (webpack#22825) added a snapshot assertion to every IMPROVED_CASES entry after this branch forked; write the three new ones.
Main's test split (webpack#22825) replaced the explicit expected-output element with a snapshot; a 4-tuple entry breaks the array's declared 3-tuple type for every entry, not just its own.
Hoisting a let-before-a-loop assignment into its declaration (added by this branch) can fold a later declarator's read into an earlier one, throwing where the un-hoisted statements ran fine. Reject a value that reads any declarator at or after the one being filled, not just itself. CodeRabbit found this reviewing the hoist commit.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winTraverse lambda bodies when checking initializer-move reads of later
letdeclarators.The
A.walkcallback returnstruefor every lambda node. Per the walk contract, that skips the lambda's children. A read of a later declarator inside a lambda is never checked. Forlet a, b; a = (() => b)();, the guard accepts the move and produceslet a = (() => b)(), b;. Evaluating the initializer calls the arrow, which readsbbefore its declarator runs. That throws aReferenceError. The original code assignsundefinedand does not throw. ThereadByClosure(definition)check covers only the targeta, notb.Suggested fix
(A.walk(assign.right, (/** @type {Node} */ node) => - A.isLambdaNode(node) - ? true - : A.isSymbolRefNode(node) && - declarations.some( - (/** @type {Node} */ sibling, /** @type {number} */ j) => - j >= index && sibling.id.definition === node.definition - ) - ? A.walk_abort - : undefined + A.isSymbolRefNode(node) && + declarations.some( + (/** @type {Node} */ sibling, /** @type {number} */ j) => + j >= index && sibling.id.definition === node.definition + ) + ? A.walk_abort + : undefined ) ||With this change the walk descends into closures. A reference to the target or to a later declarator inside any closure blocks the move. This also blocks non-invoked forms such as
a = () => b. Those are safe, so the change gives up that optimization. Printer snapshots that cover such shapes may change. I did not inspect them.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Summary
Four small cases where webpack's JavaScript minifier printed more than oxc's
peephole/*.rspasses, closed fromtest/helpers/oxcSmaller.js:if (a) return; if (b) return c;is nowif (!a && b) return c;instead ofif (!a) if (b) return c;(neither branch may hold anelse).for (; a; i++, 0)keeps onlyi++.let i; for (i = 0; …)becomeslet i = 0; for (; …);— theletstays out of the loop head only when the loop would make it a new binding each round or its own value reads itself.constholding a short string is substituted straight into a template (`<${o}>`→`<ab>`), matching what already happens for a string inside a function; a long string or a non-string value still prints as a reference.Before/after (default minimizer options):
What kind of change does this PR introduce?
feat
Did you add tests for your changes?
Yes — test/unitCases/javascript/printer.unittest.js (one case per gap, each checked against the snapshot that pins its exact output, including the else/self-reading-let/long-string guard cases) and a new test/configCases/optimization/minify-peephole/ integration case driving a real build.
Does this PR introduce a breaking change?
No.
If relevant, what needs to be documented once your changes are merged or what have you already documented?
n/a
Use of AI
I used and directed Claude Code to find the oxc gaps, write the fix and tests, and verify against terser/oxc output. I reviewed every change myself.
