1950 Packard Deluxe Eight Sedan
This 1950 Packard Deluxe Eight is a four-door sedan that was initially sold by A.J. Abbot in Bay Shore, New York. It was acquired out of Pennsylvania by the seller in 2015, and work since 2020 has involved replacing ignition and fuel-system components for the 288ci inline-eight, the clutch assembly for the column-shifted three-speed manual transmission, and brake components. The car was refinished in blue in 2000, and the front and rear bench seats are trimmed in tan upholstery with contrasting stripes. Equipment includes a hood ornament, rear fender skirts, 15″ wheels, independent front and leaf-spring rear suspension, a heater, and a woodgrain-style dashboard. This Deluxe Eight is now offered at no reserve with a copy of the original sales invoice, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and New York registration.

The car was refinished in its current shade of blue in 2000, and exterior details include a split windshield, a hood ornament, rear fender skirts, and chrome trim and wrap-around bumpers. The windshield wipers have been disconnected.

Steel 15″ wheels feature hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with BFGoodrich whitewall tires. The car is equipped with an independent front and leaf-spring rear suspension. Stopping power is provided by drums at each corner, and the wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and master cylinder were replaced in 2020. The wheel bearings were also repacked at that time.

The front and rear benches are upholstered in tan cloth with contrast striping, and the upholstery is complemented by color-coordinated carpeting and a woodgrain-style dashboard. Interior appointments include a rear-cabin robe cord, a heater, and recessed rear cabin footrests. The driver’s door panel was recovered in preparation for the sale. The clock does not work, and the radio is not connected.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a bright semi-circular horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. A secondary starter button has been added to the right of the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 31k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership.

The 288ci L-head inline-eight is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 135 horsepower. PerTronix ignition was installed in 2020, and additional work at that time involved installing a helicoil repair on the #5 cylinder, painting the engine bay, and replacing the fuel pump, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, and exhaust valves. An additional support bracket has been added to the hood, and a copper shield surrounds the carburetor base. A note on a 2020 service record shown in the gallery recommends a battery shut-off.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The clutch assembly and release bearing were replaced in 2023, and the flywheel was resurfaced.

An invoice from A.J. Abbott in Bay Shore, New York, is dated July 21, 1950. It lists factory numbers, specifications, and a 1939 Dodge sedan trade-in. Service records, copies of The Packard Cormorant, and a car cover will also accompany the car.

The vehicle is being sold on its transferable New York registration, which serves as an ownership document in New York. The registration uses the car’s engine number, H234407, and the vehicle number is also shown above.
