1957 Pontiac Chieftain Safari 2-Door Wagon Project

This 1957 Pontiac Chieftain is one of 2,934 Safari two-door station wagon examples produced for the model year, and the non-running project is said to have been parked in the late 1990s and has remained off the road since. It has been refinished in two-tone blue over blue upholstery, and the car is equipped with a 347ci V8 linked with a four-speed automatic transmission. It rolls on 14″ steel wheels with covers and has a dual exhaust system that exits ahead of the rear wheels. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2026, this Chieftain Safari project is now offered at no reserve with spare parts and New York registration.

The car was repainted in its current combination of light blue with a darker roof and side accents at some point under prior ownership. Dual exhaust outlets exit ahead of the rear wheels. Photos showing areas of rust and the condition of the exterior are included in the gallery below.

The 14″ steel wheels wear brushed covers and are mounted with Hankook Kinergy ST tires. Drum brakes are fitted.

The cabin houses front and rear bench seats that were reupholstered in blue vinyl under prior ownership. A push-button radio and controls for the heater are housed in the dashboard. Interior wear is depicted in the gallery.

The two-spoke steering wheel shows wear. A 120-mph horizontal speedometer is joined by a pair of combination gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles.

The 347ci V8 was factory equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and does not currently run.

The engine is linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. The dual exhaust system has glasspack-style mufflers.
