Summary

  1. The entry-IIFE rename now reads each non-inlined module's free names from its cached code generation data, recording them on the first render (and, for concatenations, from the scope analysis).
  2. We now also analyze the wrapped modules to collect the free names in ConcatenatedModule.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved entry bundling with concatenated modules so variable references remain correctly isolated and scoped.
    • Preserved module-local bindings when generating entry bundles, preventing incorrect name collisions or global resolution.
  • Performance

    • Reused cached unresolved-reference information during rebuilds, reducing unnecessary module parsing and scope analysis.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for entry IIFE generation, wrapped modules, variable isolation, and cached rebuild parsing behavior.

Changes

The change caches unresolved free names during concatenated-module analysis. Entry IIFE renaming reuses cached names for non-inlined modules. New configuration and watch tests verify wrapped-module isolation and parser reuse.

Cached free-name analysis

Plugins that add global reads during module rendering can produce bundles where an entry-local variable captures that read, changing runtime behavior. Preserve post-render free-name analysis before merging.

Do not reuse pre-render freeNames when render hooks can change the source.

Compilation computes result.data.freeNames during code generation, before chunk rendering invokes renderModule. renderModule then applies renderModuleContent, renderModuleContainer, and renderModulePackage, but CodeGenerationResults does not invalidate or recompute the metadata.

A hook can add a free identifier such as value. This branch skips parsing the hook-modified source, so the renaming analysis can miss the collision and allow an inlined entry declaration named value to capture that read.

Reuse the metadata only when these hooks cannot modify the source, or compute it from the final post-hook source. Add a configuration regression test for a render hook that adds a global read.

Read Changed, test untouched first: the test is byte-identical on both sides, so webpack generated the difference. Changed, test edited moved partly because the test did — Test edit is how many bytes the test gained, and a bundle that grew by less is not a regression. New and Deleted are whole files, not deltas, so adding tests cannot bury a real change. Gzip decides, because that is what users download; raw is the tiebreak, and brotli and zstd are per asset below.
