Summary

Use module paths for webpack's built-in minimizers so minimizer-webpack-plugin can load them directly in workers instead of serializing function sources.

What kind of change does this PR introduce?

feat

Did you add tests for your changes?

Yes — Added test/unitCases/MinimizerModulePath.unittest.js and test/benchmarkCases/minimizer-module-path-unit/index.bench.mjs.

Does this PR introduce a breaking change?

No.

If relevant, what needs to be documented once your changes are merged or what have you already documented?

n/a

Use of AI

AI was used to inspect minimizer-webpack-plugin #744, implement and test the webpack integration, and run the targeted benchmark.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Parallel minification for JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and JSON now has less task-preparation overhead, helping builds use worker-based minification more efficiently. Existing minifier selections and options remain unchanged.
    • Minification continues to support JavaScript tasks and configurations that enable CSS and HTML experiments.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 9497b

The formatting concerns do not block merging. Confirm the previously reported changeset requirements before merging; the available dependency evidence does not establish a minifier compatibility failure.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 9497b

Built-in module selection remains fixed, and the reviewed changes do not show a new attacker-controlled execution path. Risk is low because worker-loading compatibility for the declared dependency version remains incompletely verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The integration change can affect builds using webpack’s built-in minimizers, including JavaScript and enabled CSS, HTML, or JSON minimization. The directly evidenced exposure is build-time module execution and asset transformation, not a newly exposed service endpoint.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The changed defaults do not provide an asset-controlled route to arbitrary module selection. Trust in installed minifier code predates this PR: the previous configuration also loaded those implementations. Moving to module references changes loading and dispatch, but the reviewed selection logic does not demonstrate increased authority.

Generated code size

Comparing base (089b4c0) to head (9497bc8). Merging this pull request changes the size of 88 asset(s) whose tests it leaves untouched.

What moved Tests Assets Gzip Raw Test edit
Changed, test untouched 28 88 🟢 ↓ -20 B — —
Changed, test edited 0 0 — — —
New 0 0 — — —
Deleted 0 0 — — —
Unchanged — 8243 — — —

Read Changed, test untouched first: the test is byte-identical on both sides, so webpack generated the difference. Changed, test edited moved partly because the test did — Test edit is how many bytes the test gained, and a bundle that grew by less is not a regression. New and Deleted are whole files, not deltas — a new asset was created, not grown, so it reads gray (⚪ added) — and adding tests cannot bury a real change. Gzip decides, because that is what users download; raw is the tiebreak, and brotli and zstd are per asset below.

Node.js v10 does not support worker threads, so regular expression options passed through child-process workers are not preserved and cause failures. This webpack change depends on the fix in minimizer- webpack-plugin#749, which must be released first.
