Summary

The wrapped-request branches of ContextDependencyHelpers.create rebuild the context matcher from wrappedContextRegExp.source only, passing no flags to new RegExp(...), while the non-wrapped fallback passes the RegExp object intact, so module.parser.javascript.wrappedContextRegExp: /\.jsx?$/i silently loses its i flag and a dynamic import(`./x/${v}.js`) stops matching uppercase requests. This reuses the user's flags (stripping the stateful g/y, since ContextModuleFactory calls regExp.test() per candidate) so both the template-literal and concatenation paths behave like the fallback. Same small-fix shape as #22280 and #22281.

What kind of change does this PR introduce?

fix

Did you add tests for your changes?

Yes. test/configCases/context-modules/wrapped-context-regexp-flags covers both the template-literal and +-concatenation wrapped-context paths with a case-insensitive wrappedContextRegExp; both fail without the fix.

Does this PR introduce a breaking change?

No. Requests matched before still match; only requests the user's flags were meant to include (e.g. case-insensitive) now match as documented.

If relevant, what needs to be documented once your changes are merged or what have you already documented?

n/a

Use of AI

AI (Claude Code) was used to help locate the flag-dropping asymmetry, draft the fix, and write the integration test; all changes were reviewed and verified locally by me.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Context-based dynamic imports now preserve configured regular expression flags, improving matching for case-insensitive and Unicode patterns.
    • Hyphens in context requests are handled correctly in Unicode-mode patterns.
    • These fixes apply to context requests built from template strings and wrapped contexts, including requests that combine a module prefix and filename suffix.

Walkthrough

Both context matcher construction paths now preserve configured wrappedContextRegExp flags except g and y. The change also updates quoteMeta and adds tests for concatenation-based and template-literal context imports.

Comment thread lib/dependencies/context/ContextDependencyHelpers.js

The wrapped-request branches of ContextDependencyHelpers rebuilt the
matcher from wrappedContextRegExp.source only, dropping the user's
i/m/s/u flags, while the fallback path passed the RegExp object intact.
So module.parser.javascript.wrappedContextRegExp: /\.jsx?$/i silently
became case-sensitive. Reuse the flags (minus stateful g/y) when
rebuilding the RegExp.

Signed-off-by: Eshiv Pandey <eshivpandey18@gmail.com>
Preserving the user's `wrappedContextRegExp` flags means `u`/`v` can now
reach the rebuilt matcher. `quoteMeta` escaped `-` as `\-`, which is an
invalid escape outside a character class in Unicode mode, so a request
with a literal `-` in its static prefix or postfix (for example
importing a template literal like ./dir/module-${x}.js) threw and
aborted the build. `-` is a literal outside `[...]` and the quoted
string is only ever concatenated between anchors, so leave it unescaped.

Covers both the wrapped-context (template-literal) and wrapped-expression
(concatenation) paths with Unicode-mode, hyphen-in-prefix cases.

Reduce the quoteMeta JSDoc description to two sentences.

The new text adds two sentences after “Escapes regular expression metacharacters.” Combine the explanation into one sentence. As per path instructions, “a JSDoc description is capped at two sentences rather than lines.”

Reported by Code Size #3037 for 42c0333, computed by this pull request's own code.

Generated code size

Comparing base (328ff7e) to head (42c0333). Merging this pull request adds 6 new asset(s).

What moved Tests Assets Gzip Raw Test edit
Changed, test untouched 0 0 — — —

New 3 6 ⚪ added +3.56 KiB ⚪ added +8.67 KiB —
Deleted 0 0 — — —
Unchanged — 8239 — — —

Read Changed, test untouched first: the test is byte-identical on both sides, so webpack generated the difference. Changed, test edited moved partly because the test did — Test edit is how many bytes the test gained, and a bundle that grew by less is not a regression. New and Deleted are whole files, not deltas — a new asset was created, not grown, so it reads gray (⚪ added) — and adding tests cannot bury a real change. Gzip decides, because that is what users download; raw is the tiebreak, and brotli and zstd are per asset below.

No asset that both runs emit changed size — everything below is new or deleted.
