Summary

The integration step reran itself on failure (|| … -f). -f reruns failed test files, and each part is one jest file, so the retry reruns the whole suite. The job turns green, the flaky test stays hidden, and the job gets slower:

integration (macos-latest, 24.x, a), run 38252297923 Time
1st run (failed, hidden by the retry) ~14.9 min
retry (passed) 4.3 min
step total 19.2 min (22.x / 26.x: ~9.5 min)
- yarn test:integration:${{ matrix.part }} --ci --cacheDirectory .jest-cache || yarn test:integration:${{ matrix.part }} --ci --cacheDirectory .jest-cache -f
+ yarn test:integration:${{ matrix.part }} --ci --cacheDirectory .jest-cache

The same change applies to the cover:integration line. Flaky tests now fail the job, so they can be found and fixed.

What kind of change does this PR introduce?

Claude Code traced the slow job to the retry from the step timings and made the change. I asked for it and reviewed it.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Updated automated coverage and integration checks to run each command once rather than retrying after failure.
    • Adjusted watch-mode checks to continue sending updates until the loader is ready and ensure the repeating updates stop afterward.
    • Updated stylesheet-loading checks to attach the server-rendered stylesheet in a way supported by the test environment. These changes affect test behavior only; no user-facing features or functionality were changed.

The '|| ... -f' fallback reruns the whole suite (each part is one jest file), adding minutes and hiding flaky tests behind a green job.

📝 Walkthrough

The integration workflow no longer retries coverage or integration tests. The close-pending watch test repeats file updates until its loader barrier resolves. The stylesheet test attaches the parsed link through document.head._attach.

Changes: Integration workflow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Single-run integration checks
.github/workflows/test.yml
Coverage and integration test commands each run once without a fallback -f run. Existing conditions and the coverage environment remain unchanged.

Close-pending watch case

Layer / File(s) Summary
Watch-test retouch behavior
test/watchCases/simple/close-pending/webpack.config.js
The test writes the update every second until reached resolves, then clears the interval in a finally block.

Server-rendered stylesheet test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stylesheet attachment in FakeDocument
test/configCases/css/server-rendered-stylesheet-pending/index.js
The test attaches the stylesheet through document.head._attach. Its comment notes that the parsed link does not trigger its own load event in FakeDocument.

Read Changed, test untouched first: the test is byte-identical on both sides, so webpack generated the difference. Changed, test edited moved partly because the test did — Test edit is how many bytes the test gained, and a bundle that grew by less is not a regression. New and Deleted are whole files, not deltas — a new asset was created, not grown, so it reads gray (⚪ added) — and adding tests cannot bury a real change. Gzip decides, because that is what users download; raw is the tiebreak, and brotli and zstd are per asset below.

No asset with an untouched test changed size — every change below comes with a test this pull request edited.

…es it

On macOS a write made before the watcher is ready goes unseen, so the loader barrier never trips and the case times out.
On macOS a re-created file went unseen through three mtime-only re-touches (restored-commonjs-reexport). Rewriting the file emits a content change, and two more tries give a slow runner room.

A file created in a missing directory is tracked as that directory, which readFileSync rejects with EISDIR inside the retry timer.

Rewriting unseen files and retrying longer did not help on macOS: the watcher still missed the changes, so the harness goes back to main's version.
FakeDocument fires onload 10 ms after appendChild, so on a slow runner the 'still pending' check raced it. A server-rendered link is parsed, not inserted, so attach it directly.
The macOS integration jobs missed file changes with 2.5.2; with the
jest rerun gone they now show whether 2.6.1 sees every change.

Firefox stable now drops a family name's quotes from its computed value,
so the quirk check and the filed New Century Schoolbook divergence both
failed. Chrome and WebKit entries are unchanged.
A step that drops an import and deletes the imported file can see the
importer's change first; the rebuild stops watching the deleted file, so
its removal is never reported and re-touching cannot recreate it.
